I usually have a pile of books on my table I want to read. I’ll share a few here.
Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
About the Civil War – this one I’m only two chapters in but I know it will hold my attention.
I’ve long been interested in the civil war but mainly the battle of Gettysburg. Gettysburg must have been Hell on earth in July 1863. In only three days about 55,000 men died during that battle. Three days. 55,000. That’s more than who died in the entire Vietnam War.
The North and the South met nearly by chance or was it destiny? Heroes were made those three days.
Col. Joshua Chamberlain of Maine, an untrained soldier and college rhetoric professor. He and his men held a strategic position on the left flank for the North on Little Round Top.
Gen. George Pickett of the South led his men to tragic slaughter on the third day of the battle. Nearly his entire Division perished. Now referred to as Pickett’s charge.
Two books by Lee Child and his recurring character Jack Reacher.
The Midnight Line
I’ve read the entire series of around 20 books, except these two. Jack Reacher is an army ex-military police officer, no permanent residence, no middle name, who travels the country. Reacher is about 6’5″ 240 pounds and can kick ass and does. He always does what needs to be done and is a huge coffee drinker.
Some really good movies I’ve seen recently.
Bohemian Rhapsody biopic of Freddy Mercury and the band Queen.
Collette Just watch it it’s good. Based on a real person.
(I first watched a few years ago). Great little flick about walking the Camino de Santiago. 500 miles starting in France through northern Spain. A work of fiction but the Camino is real. Those who walk the path of St. James are called pilgrims and walk for varied reasons. Intriguing to entertain the thought of actually doing this walk.
